Sort & Spell Support
We're here to help. Most answers are below — if yours isn't, email us and a real person will reply.
Getting started
What age is Sort & Spell for?
It's made for children aged 4 to 7 who are learning to read, from first letter sounds through to reading simple sentences.
How do you play?
Each level has mixed-up jars of tiles and a few target jars, each with a picture. Tap a jar to lift its top tile, then tap a target jar to pour it in. Fill every target jar in the right order to finish the level. There's no dragging — just tap to lift, tap to pour.
What's in the game?
Three worlds, in phonics order:
- Letter Jars — letter sounds, short vowels and blends, spelling words letter by letter
- Sound Jars — sorting sounds into syllables (one dot = one clap)
- Word Jars — building sentences word by word (big letter starts, dot ends)
Does it work without internet?
Yes. Every level plays offline. A connection is only needed to start the family plan, check it, or restore it.
Does my child need an account?
No. There are no accounts and no sign-in. You can add up to four child profiles on the device, and a name is optional.
Is the app available in my language?
Sort & Spell teaches English phonics, so the app is in English only. You can choose an Australian, American or British voice.
Grown-ups area
How do I get into the grown-ups area?
Tap Grown-ups at the bottom right of the home screen, then answer the multiplication question on the keypad. It keeps young children out of settings and purchases.
How do I add, rename or delete a child's profile?
In the grown-ups area, open Settings → Children. Tap a profile to rename it, change its avatar or delete it. Deleting a profile removes that child's stars, stickers and play history.
Where can I see how my child is doing?
The grown-ups area shows each child's progress, a summary of the week and short tips — for example, when a child keeps mixing up b and d.
Can I limit how long my child plays?
Yes. Settings → Play time → Daily limit. When the limit is reached, the app shows a friendly “time to rest” screen and the jars wait until tomorrow.
How do I turn off the voice or sound effects?
Settings → Sound has separate switches for sound effects and the voice, and lets you change the accent. We recommend keeping the voice on — hearing the sounds is a big part of learning them.
The animations are too busy for my child.
Turn on Settings → Play time → Reduce motion. Tiles fade in instead of flying, and there are no shakes, pulses or confetti.
Family plan and purchases
What's free, and what's in the family plan?
The first three Letter Jars levels are free, always. Everything else is part of the family plan — one subscription that covers every child on the device. It starts with a 7-day free trial through the App Store or Google Play. Prices are shown in the store before you start.
How do I start the free trial?
Open the grown-ups area and choose Family plan. You can also tap Play on any locked level, which takes you through the grown-ups gate to the plan.
Can my child buy something by accident?
No. The plan is only offered behind the grown-ups gate, and the actual payment is handled by the App Store or Google Play — their payment sheet, their confirmation step.
How do I cancel?
Cancel in your App Store or Google Play account's subscription settings. If you cancel before the trial ends, you won't be charged.
I subscribed but the levels are locked.
This usually means the app is on a new device, or was reinstalled. Open the grown-ups area and tap Restore purchases (under Settings → Family plan). The plan comes back without paying again, as long as you use the same store account that bought it. If it still doesn't appear, email us — include the store account's email address and roughly when you subscribed.
Can the rest of my family use the plan?
On iPhone and iPad, Family Sharing is supported, so family members can restore it on their own devices. Google Play's family sharing for subscriptions is more limited; where it isn't available, each grown-up restores on their own Google account.
The plan screen says plans are unavailable.
That means the store didn't answer, usually a temporary connection or store-account problem. Check you're online and signed in to the App Store or Google Play, then try again shortly. If it persists, email us.
How do I get a refund?
Purchases are handled by the stores, so refunds go through them rather than us:
- Google Play — https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/2479637
- Apple — https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204084
If a purchase went wrong, email us as well and we'll help where we can.
Progress and data
What data do you collect?
Nothing about your child. Profiles, progress and settings are saved on the device and never sent to us. There are no ads and no analytics. The only thing the app sends is a subscription check, which contains nothing about your child. The full details are in our privacy policy.
How do I delete my child's data?
Delete their profile in the grown-ups area, or uninstall the app to remove everything. There's no copy with us, because it never left the device.
