Sort & Spell privacy policy
Last updated: 19 October 2026
Sort & Spell is a reading game for young children. We built it so that it does not need to know who your child is.
What the app stores
The app keeps the following on your device:
- The name and avatar you choose for each child profile (up to four). A name is optional; the app works with the default "Explorer".
- For each child: which levels have been played and the stars and stickers earned, and for each play session the date, how long it lasted, the number of wrong moves, and which letters or words were swapped. The grown-ups area uses this to show progress and tips such as "mixes up b and d".
- Your settings: sound and voice switches, spoken accent, and the daily play limit.
We never receive any of this. It lives in the app's own storage on your device, and deleting the app deletes it. On Android the app opts out of Google's cloud backup, although moving to a new Android phone may still copy it across. On iPhone and iPad your device's own iCloud or computer backup includes it, as it does for every app.
What the app does not do
- It does not collect names, email addresses, photos, location, contacts, or device identifiers such as the advertising ID.
- It does not ask for camera, microphone, location, photos, contacts or Bluetooth access.
- It does not show advertising of any kind.
- It does not use analytics, crash reporting or tracking tools.
- It contains no links to websites, app stores or social media. This policy and our terms are shown inside the app, behind the grown-ups gate.
- It does not let children communicate with anyone.
Sound and speech
Spoken prompts come from recordings bundled with the app or from your device's built-in speech engine. The app does not send anything to a speech service.
Purchases
The full game is a single one-off purchase, sold through the Apple App Store or Google Play and only from the grown-ups area behind the parental gate. Apple or Google handle your payment; we never see your card details.
To check whether the purchase is active, and to restore it on another device, the app talks to RevenueCat, a purchase service provider. It sends:
- a random identifier that RevenueCat creates on this device, which is not linked to your name, your child or the advertising ID;
- your store purchase receipts and transactions;
- basic technical details: the platform and system version, the app version, and the store country and currency.
As with any internet request, RevenueCat's servers also see the device's IP address. Nothing about your child, their profile or their play is sent. To use the purchase on another device, sign in to the same store account there and tap Restore purchases in the grown-ups area.
Children's privacy
The app is designed for children aged 4 to 7 and is built to follow the Apple Kids Category guidelines, the Google Play Families policy, COPPA (US) and the Australian Privacy Act. We do not collect personal information from children: everything about your child stays on your device, so there is nothing for a parent to review or delete on our side.
Changes
If we ever change what the app stores or sends, we will update this page and the app's store listing before the change ships.
